BIASSA: UN BORGO DA SCOPRIRE

  •

Nestled in the heart of the Ligurian hills, surrounded by woods and silently gazing toward the sea, lies Biassa — one of the oldest villages in the La Spezia area. A place that holds stories, traditions, and a simple kind of beauty — the kind that stays with you.

📜 The earliest written records of Biassa date back to the 10th century, when the village was part of the communication route between the hinterland and the coast. Travelers would stop here to rest and refresh themselves before tackling the steep paths leading to the Cinque Terre.

🏰 Its strategic position made it an important stronghold for the defense of the La Spezia territory during the Middle Ages. Even today, you can still spot remnants of ancient walls and stone structures that bear witness to the village’s proud and resilient past.

🔔 The Church of San Martino, the spiritual and architectural heart of the village, dates back to the 13th century. Built in Romanesque style with Gothic touches, it houses ancient frescoes and an 18th-century altarpiece, as well as a bell that — according to legend — rang by itself one stormy night, warning the villagers of a landslide and saving them from disaster.

🌿 Just a few minutes' walk from Biassa, you can discover hidden gems tucked away in the surrounding landscape:

  • 💧 The Fonte del Prete is an ancient spring where the village women once came to fetch water and wash clothes.
  • 🌅 The Sunset Overlook is a hidden panoramic spot where you can watch the sea sparkle on the horizon.
  • 🧚‍♀️ The Fairies’ Trail is a path winding through chestnut and holm oak trees, where—according to legend—you can hear the songs of woodland fairies on moonlit nights.

💫 Here, everything invites you to slow down, to listen to the silence, and to rediscover the beauty of simple things. Biassa is more than just a stop along the way — it’s an experience to embrace with an open heart.

🏰 Rocca di Coderone

🏯 Hidden in the woods above Biassa stand the mysterious remains of the Rocca di Coderone, an ancient medieval fortress. Shrouded in legend, it is said to have served as a strategic lookout point — and to still guard secrets from the past.

🎨 In the heart of the village, Spazio Arte Biassa is a contemporary art atelier housed in a historic building. Run by sculptor Frank Louis, it offers a journey through modern artworks set in evocative spaces — from rock-carved cellars to bright, airy rooms.

🏞️ In the hills above the village, Batteria Santa Croce and the ancient Casa Pilloa stand as fascinating historical landmarks. Surrounded by nature, these places tell stories of times long past and offer breathtaking views over the Gulf of Poets.
